Trip Overview

Everest Base Camp Trekking is the most popular trekking destination that is done at the base of the tallest mountain in the world. The high elevation trial, sherpa village, high passes, white water river, flags and prayers of the monastery, and glorious mountains make it always special. Everest Base Camp trekking is high-altitude trekking to observe the peak of Mount Everest and other glorious Himalayas such as Lhotse, Amadablam, Pumori, Makalu, and many more peaks.

Everest Base Camp Trekking comprises Sherpa culture with the beauty of the Himalayas which creates a lifetime memory for trekkers. The majestic Khumbu region, and the structure of Sherpa villages with flags and prayers, always fascinate trekkers in this region.

We have been organizing trekking in the Everest region via Lukla and other trekking trials. In the 1970s and 80s, the Everest expedition and Everest Base camp trekking and other Peak climbing trekked through Jiri a small town in Dolkha District. After constructing the Lukla airstrip, people are attracted to the Lukla route to do Everest Base camp trekking. It reduces the trekking days also as it needs a minimal one-month duration for Everest Base camp trekking. But these days, adventure lovers not only like to trek but also learn new cultures and traditions of the newer place. Tourists started to use an earlier route for trekking Everest Base Camp. Jiri was considered the gateway of Everest since transport service was limited to Jiri only. At present up to Salleri vehicles are available and only two more days of trekking will connect to the regular route of Everest Base Camp trekking. There are multiple options currently to go for Everest Base camp trekking. The plan here is based on Lukla as the entry point of Everest Base camp. We provide each and every detail from Lukla to base camp. Even from Lukla, we can trek via Gokyo Cho-la Pass to trek base camp. This is a regular trekking plan following Namche Bazar, Tengboche, Pangboche, Dingboche, Pheriche, and so on.

Everest base camp trekking is difficult since the maximum elevation of the trekking trail is 5545m (Kala Patthar). The increasing height of the trail each day makes it tougher and more challenging, that's why there are 2 additional days for acclimatization in Namche Bazar and in Dingboche. Overall, Everest Base camp trekking is tougher than other trekking, such as Annapurna Base camp trekking and Langtang valley trekking.

How many Days require for Everest Base Camp trekking?

Traditionally, Jiri was widely used for Everest trekking and climbing as Jiri was considered a gateway to Everest. Jiri to Everest base camp trekking is still continued and considered a classical trek to Everest Base camp trekking. It takes almost 20 days trek to complete EBC trekking via Jiri. At present, Lukla is used as the main entry point to the Everest region. For regular Everest base camp trekking, 12 days of trekking is recommended. Even there are multiple choices of trekking via Cho la pass to Everest Base camp exploring Gokyo valley. If we do this, it takes 15 to 18 days of trekking to complete the EBC trek. For details regarding the trekking duration, you can write to us for customization of the Everest Base Camp trek.

What is the possible trekking trail to Everest Base Camp?

Everest Base Camp trekking was operated via Jiri till the airstrip of Lukla was not in operation. In 1971 commercial flights started from Kathmandu airport to Lukla airport. There were only a few planes of Nepal airlines(Formerly Royal Nepal Airlines) for Lukla. It was initially operated for cargo and logistics for the remote hills of Lukla. Before that most trekkers and climbers used Jiri as a gateway to Everest. At present, Lukla has become the de facto gateway to Everest. There is a definite route to Everest Base camp following the regular trail of Namche Bazar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Gorakshep, and Everest Base camp, or even we can select high passes trails like Renjo-la pass, Cho-la Pass, and so on. The convenient and most used route is as follows:

Trekking To EBC from Kathmandu : Lukla fly – Phakding – Namchebazar – Tengboche – Dingboche – Lobuche – Gorak Shep – EBC- GorakShep
Return trail to Lukla and Kathmandu: Gorakshep- Kala Patthar- Gorek Shep – Pheriche – Namchebazar-Lukla – Kathmandu
