Trip Overview

The Kailash Mansarovar trek is a holy trek that starts from Kathmandu and ends in Kathmandu. Kailash Mansarovar trek can be organized via Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. However, the best route to the Kailash Mansarovar trek is via Kathmandu, Nepal. This pilgrimage trek starts with the application submission to the Chinese Visa Center in Kathmandu. After the visa is received for the Kailash Mansarovar tour, we drive to the Nepal-China border to Rasuwagadhi from where we enter Tibet, China. We stay at Kerung for acclimatization to cope with increasing elevation. The pilgrimage trek takes you to the sacred Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in the remote southwestern part of Tibet, China. It is believed that Mount Kailash is a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhists which is renowned for religious and spiritual as well as for its stunning natural beauty. Mansarovar Lake is on the way to Mount Kailash, part of the Trans Himalaya in Tibet. Hindus all over the world believe that Mount Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva and Hindu pilgrims circumambulate the sacred peak. Buddhists believe that Mount Kailash is the residence of Buddha Demchok. Besides Hindus and Buddhists, others travel to Kailash Mansarovar to embrace the natural beauty of this place.

We started our tour from Kathmandu to Kerung after the management of the necessary documentation and visa for Tibet, China. The trek typically starts from Darchen(4800m) from where pilgrims are involved in the Mount Kailash circumambulation that covers 52km. Dolma La Pass is the highest point located at an elevation of 5630m. The trekking is physically demanding and challenging due to the high altitude and unpredictable weather. Acute Mountain sickness can be a concern, therefore proper acclimatization plan is necessary in the entire tour. For visa processing, it takes a minimum of 5 working days even express service is also available which costs more than regular service.

Itinerary Highlights

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Kerung border (2700m), 155km, drive 8 hours
Day 03: Rest Day in Kerung for proper acclimatization.
Day 04: Drive from Kerung to Saga (4600 m), 220 km, drive 6 hours.
Day 05: Drive from Saga to Mansarovar (4558 m), 280 km, drive 6 hours.
Day 06: Drive from Mansarovar Lake to Darchen (4800m), a 40km drive.
Day 07: Start Kailash trek, Day one, trek to Dirapuk (4920m).
Day 08: Kailash Trek – Day two, trek to Zuthul Puk (4850m).
Day 09: Trek last day – trek to the end of the valley and drive back to Saga.
Day 10: Drive back from Saga to Kerung (2700m).
Day 11: Drive back to Kathmandu (1350m).

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu.
Arrival in Kathmandu, meet by our officer with warm welcome by Rudrakshya mala in the airport and transfer to hotel. Collect original passport for visa formalities, (Please arrange to arrive Sunday, Monday or Tuesday).
Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Kerung border (2700m), 155km, drive 8 hours
Our staff assist you while driving from Kathmandu to Rashuwagadi. We stayed in the guesthouse for the following day to enter Kerung, Tibet.
Day 03: Rest Day in Kerung for proper acclimatization.
After completing of immigration formalities, we entered Kerung and transferred to the hotel. We stroll around Kerung town for better adaptation and comfort.
Day 04: Drive from Kerung to Saga (4600 m), 220 km, drive 6 hours.
After breakfast, we drive for Saga which is 220 km far from Kerung and has an elevation of 220km. It takes around 6 hours to drive.
Day 05: Drive from Saga to Mansarovar (4558 m), 280 km, drive 6 hours.
Today, we drive to holy lake Mansarovar which is at 4558m high and takes 6 hours to drive 280 km. These days you cannot take a holy bath in the lake. You must bathe by taking water in a bucket.
Day 06: Drive from Mansarovar Lake to Darchen (4800m), a 40km drive.
The elevation is pretty high so we drive to Darchen and take a rest before starting trekking around Mount Kailash.
Day 07: Start Kailash trek, Day one, trek to Dirapuk (4920m).
Today we trek to reach Dirapuk. We are trekking around 5000m, so you must drink access liquid and soup to keep your body hydrated.
Day 08: Kailash Trek – Day two, trek to Zuthul Puk (4850m).
We trek to Zuthul Puk. Enjoying the serenity of holy places, we trek throughout the day.
Day 09: Trek last day – trek to the end of the valley and drive back to Saga.
Today we finish the trek and drive back to Saga. In the evening, we stroll around Saga town.
Day 10: Drive back from Saga to Kerung (2700m).
Drive back to Kerung.
Day 11: Drive back to Kathmandu (1350m).
We transfer to the Nepal border after completion of immigration formalities.We drive to Kathmandu to complete our journey.
