Trip Overview

Manaslu region is a restricted area and it was closed till 1992. After the restoration of democracy in Nepal, the Manaslu region is open for trekking. But still, a separate special permit is issued to travel in the wilder zone. Manaslu base camp trekking is off-beaten trekking and a less crowded region for trekking. A real paradise in nature theatre. Manaslu Base camp trekking is located in Gorkha district which is the border of Nepal and Tibet. The adventurous trekking is in the lap of the eighth-tallest mountain Manaslu(8163m) which is named after the Sanskrit word meaning ‘mountain of spirit’.

Trekking to the Manaslu base camp offers to enrich sherpa culture similar to Tibetan culture. Manaslu Base Camp treks open up to round the entire Manaslu ridge to explore natural and cultural diversity. Manaslu Conservation Area Project regulates and manages everything. To enter into Manaslu region, an MCAP permit is essential. MCAP permit is available in the Kathmandu immigration office located at Dillibazar Kalikasthan. You are not able to get permits for solo trekking, a minimum of two trekkers are needed for the special permits. If you are alone join groups or connect with us to be in a group. Manaslu Base camp trekking and Manaslu Circuit trekking are similar in terms of trail, location, and days that we spend trekking there. Even it is possible to connect to another high-sounding trekking Round Annapurna from Tal following Thorong la pass(5416m) to reach Muktinath Jomsom(lower Mustang). Besides the Manaslu circuit, we can go for Tsum valley trekking which is different from other places.

Manaslu Base camp trekking is less crowded compared to other popular trekking of Everest and Annapurna region. The trekking trail demands sound physical fitness as it is a rough terrain of remote mountains. We start trekking from the bank of Budhi Gandaki gorges following a few hilly areas of agricultural land, beautiful waterfalls, and taller suspension bridges over Budhi Gandaki. In this trek, we cross Larkya la pass(5167m) which is near the Nepal-Tibet border. Crossing Larkya la pass is quite tough so we start our trekking in the early morning at 3 a.m. to cross the highest point before the winds disturb us.
