Trip Overview

Everest high pass trekking is adventurous and challenging trekking in the Everest region. The trekking trail is less used in the Everest region to reach Everest Base Camp. This is one of the most exciting and thrilling trekking which showcased beautiful snowcapped mountains such as Mount Everest, Pumori, Lhotse, Makalu, Amadablam, and many other peaks.

Everest high passes trekking includes the beautiful Gokyo lake which is the main attraction of this trek as it lies between Renjo-la Pass(5340m) and Cho-la Pass(5420m). Both these passes are tough and rewarding whenever we complete them, the enriched Sherpa culture and their traditions can be experienced during this trekking. Kongma la pass(5535m) is out of the course in regular trekking. Therefore, these three high-pass trekking is physically challenging and adventurous trekking combined with Kala Patthar and Everest base camp. Within a single trekking package, you will experience six to seven destinations above 5000m which is rarely available in any trekking package. You will experience Sherpa culture in this elevation too.

This trek begins from Lukla and enters through Sagarmatha National Park will offer you a magnificent view of  Mount Everest as you stand gladly in the Everest Base Camp which will be trailed by a Kongma la pass. From Dingboche(4410m), we climb to Chukung(4730m) One of the highest among three passes, and cross it rarely as the route is wild with high altitude. Generally trekkers escape Kongma la pass while trekking to EBC. The rewarding part of this pass can not compare with other things as you will experience the highest elevation that you have trekked. Likewise, we climb Chukung Ri(5550m) so that it is easy for us to cross Kongma la pass. After crossing Kongma la pass(5535m), we reach Lobuche and take a rest. Tomorrow, we climb to Everest Base camp via Gorakshep and back to Gorakshep(5181m) and stay overnight in the lodge. After completing Kala Patthar we descend to Dzongla(4830m) which is a trekking trail to Cho-la pass following Thangnak(4750m) to Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Ri. The great experience continued till we cross Renjo la Pass and again return to Lukla through Namche Bazar.

The most energizing part about this trek is that you will probably see the various magnificence of different areas all within a half month. You will be astonished to see recognized scenes regularly as you climb and slip through the trails. Religious spots shaped with the Mani stones and the Buddhist prayer flags, snowcapped hillocks eventually, dry betrayed land at some spot, now and then the rough steep slopes and solidified cold lakes will all entrance you and place you in dazed quiet. Finally, this is a fully packed adventurous trek with beauty, culture, and traditions.

Expert View

Everest High Pass Trekking is one of my evergreen trekking destinations. When I was 19 years old, I got an opportunity to trek this sacred place. Though I was unaware of trekking activities in high-altitude mountains. I learned the basics of trekking on that trip to Everest Base Camp. I understood the challenges of high-altitude trekking, food, Sherpa culture, tea houses, and their standard.

When I returned from the Everest trek, I joined a climbing school in Kathmandu. I defined my career path as a trekker. Around the late 90s, I trekked several in Nepal, India, Bhutan, and Tibet. Everest Trekking regularly attracts me as it is my first choice to trek.

At present, globally people come to Nepal to trek the Everest region, Annapurna region, Langtang region, Makalu region, and many other beautiful destinations. Around 40,000 trekkers only trek in the Everest region annually. I had a different experience every time trekking in the Everest region. I have noticed different difficulties of trekkers during trekking. I want to share my experiences and suggestions through this article today.

Everest trekking has two high altitude sections: 2600m to 3500m and 3500m to 5500m. If you are from low land and have no idea of high altitude, it is very risky for you since altitude sickness may catch you. Whether you go solo or in a group, please check your trek plan to know the acclimatization day within the trip plan. Adaptation is very essential when the altitude is increased. Therefore, gradual ascent is a must to adapt to high altitudes. Acclimatization is planned in the itinerary to familiarize with high altitudes. On acclimatization day, we should plan to visit a nearer hiking destination to check our fitness and adaptability to high altitudes. We return to the same elevation that helps us to adapt to the context. If Altitude Sickness symptoms are noticed, immediately we must descend to a lower height as it may be dangerous for you. But it is not always necessary to go down as we can rest. A few things must be noticed to understand altitude sickness such as your breathing will become more rapid and lengthy as your body aims to maintain the same oxygen intake per unit of time, and your lung's ability to absorb oxygen from the air will increase that helps to supply more oxygen in the blood. So ascent gradually and take rest at a defined altitude as the first phase of acclimatization. Another hidden part of Khumbu trekking is the enriched Sherpa culture. You will notice Gompas and the monastery on your way to Everest. You can learn and enjoy their hospitality during your trip. There are mainly two seasons to trek in the Everest region Spring and Autumn. Both seasons have their unique features and advantage of trekking there. I recommend trekking with an experienced and equipped agency and a competent Trekking guide so that a hassle-free trip will be there. Enjoy your Everest Base Camp trek. Cheers!
