Langtang valley is considered as one of the most beautiful valleys in the world. The diverse ecosystem makes it more interesting and curious among trekkers, researchers and travelers. Ganja-La Pass(5122m) connect Langtang valley and Helambu valley, both valleys are located North from Kathmandu, Capital city of Nepal. Langtang Ganja-La Pass trekking is tough trekking as it follows snow covered high passes and steep trails where we find diverse flora and fauna and great perspective of Beautiful Himalayan range of Langtang Himalayan range.

Langtang Ganja-La Pass trekking covers Tamang and sherpa culture as trial is known as Tamang Heritage trail. The untouched culture and lifestyle definitely amaze you and makes you excited. Normally, they follow Buddhism which is quite similar to Tibetan Buddhism. Ganja-La pass lies in the Langtang National Park. The yak herds and sheep can be seen during summer as they are grazing in high elevation. Langtang valley is popular for Yak Cheese whereas Helambu is popular for apple garden and beautiful women. This trek offers snow-covered high passes, great perspectives of mountains, old religious communities, lovely Langtang and Helambu valleys, and natural life. Moreover, we also made an interesting excursion to Tserko Ri (5,000m), which offers tremendous views of the Langtang Himalayan range. Green rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and the snow-capped Himalayas make the trek one of the most diverse treks near Kathmandu. Ganja-La Pass trek is a mixture of the Langtang Valley trek and the Helambu trek. The trail reaches the compelling Ganja La Pass (5122m), the highest altitude of the trek. This trek also allows you to see the red panda, snow leopard, bear, and languor mid-way.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 01 - Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu and transfer to hotel

    Upon your arrival in Kathmandu airport, Jugal Himal representative will greet you and assist you to reach hotel. You will be served with welcome dinner with Nepali cultural show. Few discussions for entire travel plan during dinner. Overnight stay in hotel.

  • Day 02 – Explore History and Culture of Kathmandu Valley

    Kathmandu valley comprises of unique tradition and culture with beautiful world heritage sites. Within valley, there are seven world heritage sites: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath, Bouddhanath, Pashupatinath, Changunarayan, Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar square. You have choices among these heritage sites to visit in a day tour. Patan Durbar square, Swoyambhunath and Bouddhanath can be visited or you can think of organic town Bhaktapur and Pashupati one of the greatest temples of Hindu. Even Kathmandu Durbar square can be visited during evening time or in morning time. It is near- by Thamel. 

    The Durbar Square of Kathmandu holds many old palaces, buildings, temples and statues from medieval times. The destructive earthquake of 2015 destroys many monuments which are currently repairing and rebuilding in similar look as before. Overnight stay in hotel. 

  • Day 03 Drive from Kathmandu to Syaphrubensi(1492m) 137 km ( 8 hours)

    We drive from Kathmandu to Syaphrubensi as there is only one option of using road to go there. Even Heli tour is available for Langtang region. We recommend adventure lovers to experience the thrill and wilderness of this region. We will start the day with breakfast early in the morning and start the journey. It will take around 8 to 9 hours to reach Syaphrubensi. On getting to Trishuli Bazaar, the Manaslu Massif, Ganesh, Jugal Himal, and Langtang stand tall overhead. After crossing Trishuli, our bus starts to move uphill, closing towards the clouds. After about two hours, we will reach Dhunce and then Syaphrubensi in an hour. One will enjoy the lush green forest midway. We will get to our destination by the evening and then stop for the night before beginning the trek the following day.

  • Day 04: Syaphrubensi(1492) to Lama Hotel(2447)

    Our trek officially starts on the fourth day. We will finish our breakfast early in the morning, pack up all the gear, and start our day. In the midway, we will pass through beautiful scenery; the river, several waterfalls, huge boulders along the trail, small villages, and a beautiful forest. We will have our lunch in the Bamboo, about ten km from the starting point. After lunch, we will move upwards, enjoying the natural beauty. We will walk around 16 kms around 6-7 hours. In the mid-way, we will pass through Tiwari, Bamboo and Rimche and reach the final spot for the day, Lama Hotel. There is the availability of wifi, a Hot shower, and electricity to charge your gadgets. 

  • Day 05: Trek to Mundu (3,543m) via Langtang village (3,430m) 6-7hrs

    Shortly after having our breakfast, we will start our trek. Today’s destination will be Mundu Village. In the mid-way, we will pass through Langtang Village; the village symbolizes the relationship between Tibetans and the Tamang community living together following the Buddhist religion. The whole town was swept away due to an avalanche caused by the 2015 devastating earthquake. People have shifted to a nearby plane and started a new settlement. After a mild 6- 7 hours trek, we will reach Mundu and rest for the day. 

  • Day 06: Trek to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m) 3 hrs and Explore around Gompa

    Today, we will hike for a short time for about 3 to 4 hours, reach Kyangjin Gompa and spend the day exploring the water mills, prayer wheels, and sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. There are several alternative side trips to explore surrounding areas of north where uninhabited river bed- river valley located. We will spend the night at the same place.

  • Day 07: Acclimatization day and explore Tserko Ri (5,000m) 7-8 hrs

    We will finish our breakfast and start the exploration day in Tserko Ri. It will take about 2-3 hrs to trek up the peak. From the top we will have a clear view of the Langtang Lirung, Langtang range, Ganja La Peak, Yala Peak, and many others. Overnight at a lodge in Kyanjin.

  • Day 08: Trek to Ganja La Phedi(4300m) 5-6 hrs

    It will be one of the memorable days of the trip. After breakfast, We will start ourtrek passing through the Langtang river and entering the evergreen blooming Rhododendron Forest. This region is very challenging during the winter due to the snowfall, so trekkers avoid the area during the winter time. After 5-6 hrs trek, we will reach Ganja La Phedi and stay there tonight. 

  • Day 09: Cross the Ganja La Pass (5,122m) Trek to Keldang (4,250m) 6-7 hrs

    The day we have been waiting for the last one week finally comes. We will wake up early in the mornings, finish our breakfast, and then start our uphill hike to Ganja La Pass. We will hike up almost 900m and then trek down to Keldang at 4250m. The pass will be covered with snow throughout the year due to its altitude. We will have a spectacular panoramic view of mountain ranges from the top. After taking pictures, we will descend down to Keldang, and stay overnight at Keldang.

  • Day 10: Trek from Keldang to Dhukpa 4040m/5-6 hours

    After finishing our breakfast, we will start our day and set the destination to Dhukpa. The trail consists of many highs and lows. We will descend towards the valley along the ridge and an easy walk on the grasslands that takes us to Dhukpa. After trekking for about 5-6 hours, we will reach our destination and rest for the day.

  • Day 11: Trek to Trake Ghyang(2,590m) 5-6 hrs

    Today, we will descend more than 1500m. Our trek starts to drop from the early steps, but we will have to climb a steep climb to reach Yangri Peak. From this pass, you can view the Himalayan section of the Annapurna region in the west to the Everest region in the east. From this point, we will see a descent downhill through the pine forest and rhododendron forest and small herder settlement to Tarke Ghyang. We will spend the night at the Sherpa village and enjoy the local hospitality.

  • Day 12: Trek to Sermanthang (2,610m) 3-4 hrs

    The Sherpa community especially inhabits this region. After a delicious meal at the lodge, we will walk through a small forest section and enjoy the view of the numerous Helambu Region villages. After a short trek of about 3-4 hrs, we will reach today’s destination, Sermanthang. Stay overnight at lodge.

  • Day 13: Trek to Melamchi Bazar and Drive back to Kathmandu

    Today is the final day of our trekking. We will finish our meal at the lodge and then trek for about 3-4 hrs to reach Melamchi Pul Bazar and drive back to Kathmandu. With all the memories and hardship, we will arrive in Kathmandu and prepare for the departure. In the evening we will have farewell dinner and shopping around Thamel.
