What are the best routes to trek in the Everest region?

Trekking to Everest means reaching its base camp which is generally understood by trekkers. Even though trek up to Everest base camp, there are multiple options and a trekking trail. Some of the trekkers enjoy the Gokyo lake trek and back to Kathmandu whereas most of the trekkers follow the Gokyo lake trail to reach base camp. During the Gokyo lake trek, you must cross high passes like the Renjo-la pass(5360m) and the Cho-la pass(5420m). Today, I am going to share available trekking trails to Everest and the best feasible for beginners and strenuous for the adventure seeker within this blog article.

Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp Trek is a widely used trekking route that starts from Lukla and ends up at Lukla itself. Before the Lukla airstrip, the gateway to Sagarmatha (Everest region) was Jiri- a small hilly town in the Dolakha district. The trek starts from Lukla, which follows the trail passing Phakding village for the first day and we stay in a local tea house. The regular trekking route follows Phakding, Namche Bazar, and Tengboche. We acclimatize in Namche bazaar and can visit Khumjung village which is popular for its sherpa culture and warm hospitality. Even we can acclimatize in Tengboche and visit around Tengboche monastery. We follow Dingboche, Lobuche, Everest Base camp, and back to Gorakshep and again trek to Kalapatthar and then descend to Pheriche and Namche Bazaar and finally Lukla to complete the Everest base camp trek. This trekking route is relatively easy and the availability of tea houses and local lodges are
Sufficient with basic facilities in the Everest region.

Gokyo Lake Trek

Gokyo Lake trek in the Everest region takes you to the pristine lake system at an elevation of 4700m. To trek Gokyo, there are multiple routes available like via Renjo la pass or from Dole following Machhermo to reach Gokyo village and then Gokyo lake. Gokyo trek is also known as the Everest Round trek as we can create a circuit to complete it in Namche bazaar. The trekking route follows Namche bazaar, Dole, Machhermo, Gokyo valley, exploration around Gokyo lake, a warm-up session before crossing Renjo-la pass by climbing Gokyo Ri, cross Renjo-la pass(5340m) to reach Lungden(4300m), Thame and then trek to Namche bazaar to complete a circuit. This trek is also awesome in the Everest region since the view of Everest and other peaks are magnificent from Gokyo Ri(5360m).

Three Passes Trek

One of the strenuous trekking routes to reach Everest base camp via three passes trek is more challenging and physically demanding. The trekking route for this trek starts from Lukla following Thame, and Lungden, and then crosses Renjo-la pass to reach Gokyo valley. Then after, trek to Thangnak from Gokyo village, trek to Dzongla and then connect with the regular route of Everest Lobuche, Everest base camp, Gorakshep, Kalapatthar, and trek to Lobuche. Now we slightly change the route to trek Kogma la pass via Chukung. Now, when we cross Kongma la pass(5535m), the toughest pass in the Everest region, we descend to Tengboche from Chukung village. After Tengboche, Namche bazaar, and then Lukla to complete trekking.

While thinking of this trek, ensure the safety and reliability of the trekking agency, trekking guide, porters, and safety measures.

Finally, Everest base camp trekking can be possibly organized differently based on your time, budget, and trekking experience. Even EBC is combined with Renjo-la pass and Cho-la pass through Gokyo valley. Everest view trek is also organized for those who have limited time and strength to complete 15 days of long trekking. For this, trekkers trek up to Khumbu valley, following Namchebazar and Tengboche.
